Pennies and Kisses and GODLY Parents

Lucyah and I just finished doing the presentation of Zacchaeus when we encountered two pure hearts.

He couldn’t have been more than 4 years old.

Carlston walked over to me with an outstretched arm and a clenched fist. He spread his fingers wide open, put his chin images-1down a little and raised his big beautiful eyes toward me. “This is for you,” he said. I took his three pennies and thanked him for his kindness. Immediately  I thought of the story in chapter 12 of Mark (The Widow’s Mite).

JESUS tells us she put in everything…..so did my young friend! Scripture tells us in 2 Corinthian 8  if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have. GOD cares not about our physical giving but rather the intent of the heart.

imagesWhile I was being blessed by Carlston, a three year old had spotted Lucy in her first century garb. When she caught Lucy’s eye, Lucy smiled and waved at her and she waved back. Then, Lucy blew her a kiss and the little girl caught the kiss with her right hand. She then took the kiss and placed it in her heart. She then blew a kiss to Lucy who caught it and placed it in her heart!

Later that night after the Passion Play, Lucy spotted the little girl again. She waved and blew GOD’s child a kiss again….and once again she caught it and placed it in her heart.  This simple act brought a smile and tear to Lucy’s spirit. That’s often what happens when we become aware of innocence in human form.

He had three pennies, he gave all he had.  She caught a kiss and placed in her heart.  She wanted to keep the love. Don’t you wonder where they learned that!  I believe it was the intentional teaching of their GODLY parents.

I ask you today to pray for these parents and the many like them across America who are teaching their children about giving and matters of the heart. Often our culture focuses on the dark aspects of society when Light is all around us.

Look for the Light!  Encourage those who are doing their best to light the candles of the future and join them as you can.
